Musicians from the Northern Home Counties and beyond are being given the chance to show off their musical talent as the annual Rickmansworth Young Musician of the Year competition returns.

Competitors should be aged 19 or under on April 30, should have achieved at least Grade 7 (Associated Board or equivalent) and be a student of instrumental or vocal classical music.

Entries are invited from all disciplines including piano, harp, strings, brass, woodwind, percussion and vocal.

Preliminary rounds will be held on May 10 and May 11 with the final concert on June 30. Both the preliminary rounds and final concert will be held at the Baptist Church on High Street.

The winner will be offered an opportunity to perform as a soloist with Chorleywood orchestra as well as winning £400.

The performer in second place will receive £200 and third place will win £100. The other five finalists will receive £20 each.

Trophies will also be awarded at the final concert for the best performer in each category, subject to a minimum of three entrants performing in that category in the preliminary rounds.

The competition for students of classical music began in 1983 following a joint initiative by the Rotary Club of Rickmansworth and Three Rivers Music Society.
