A man has been arrested during an operation targeting organised crime in Watford.
The arrest occurred when a search warrant was carried out on Tuesday, September 17, as part of an investigation by Hertfordshire Constabulary’s specialist organised crime team, Operation Relentless.
During the search, an active firearm was recovered from an address in North Watford. Mark Brummitt, 21, of Gossamers, Watford, was arrested and later charged with possession of a prohibited weapon. Brummitt appeared in court on Wednesday, September 18, and was remanded into custody.
A spokesperson for Hertfordshire Constabulary’s Operation Relentless team said: “Following the increase in violent crime in Watford, particularly that involving firearms, the Operation Relentless team has been carrying out an investigation into the organised crime networks operating in the town.
“Whilst we have no evidence that there are any links between this operation and the recent gun crime in the town, we are working to identify those involved and pursuing anyone involved in organised and violent crime. We rely on information from the public so anyone with information that could help us prevent further violence is asked to make contact with us, or report anonymously via Crimestoppers.”
