An Abbots Langley councillor has hit out at Hertfordshire County Council’s (HCC) highway fault reporting system.
Councillor Stephen Giles-Medhurst, who is a county councillor for the Leavesden Ward and also the Leader of Three Rivers District Council, says he is “fed up” of the responses he has received to various reported faults in Abbots Langley.
Examples include overgrown plants covering the highway and road signs at the junction of College Road and Tibbs Hill Road in Abbots, and signs at the junction of Gallows Hill and Gallows Hill Lane.
Speaking to Abbots News, cllr Giles-Medhurst said: “The responses are frankly useless. All I got was a bland reply that said they need to assess if further investigation is needed.”
Cllr Giles-Medhurst added that he chased up HCC’s head of highways but was still waiting for a reply several days later.
He added: “Frankly, all I want is some action, not yet another excuse. It’s just not good enough.”
A spokesperson for HCC said: “We encourage road users to report any problems to us online.
“Every fault report is looked at, and although we can’t always fix problems straight away, we use the information residents provide to prioritise works and plan maintenance programmes.
“We are currently working on improvements to the responses residents receive from the fault reporting system that will mean people who report problems get a clearer explanation of the outcome of the report.”
