Twelve people have been arrested and eight vehicles seized as part of a targeted operation to tackle acquisitive criminals who travel into Hertfordshire to commit their crimes.

Operation Conarium was carried out over two weeks (from Tuesday, June 7, to Friday, June 17) across Hertsmere, Watford and Three Rivers, in partnership with the Metropolitan Police to target those who travel between neighbouring London boroughs and Hertfordshire to carry out their crimes.

PC Brad Glover, from the Hertsmere Operation Scorpion Team, who coordinated the operation, said: “We know that criminals cross borders to carry out crimes such as theft, burglary and robbery before heading back home again and we are constantly linking in with our colleagues within neighbouring police forces to identify and arrest these offenders.

“This latest operation resulted in 42 stop and searches taking place, 12 people being arrested, eight vehicles seized and multiple Traffic Offence Reports (TORs) being issued for various driving offences.

“The arrests related to a variety of offences including burglary, theft of motor vehicle, possession of drugs and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

“We were also able to gather vital intelligence which helps us to plan future operations and target those who travel into Hertfordshire to cause harm.

“Whether or not we are running a specific police operation, teams from the constabulary’s Operation Scorpion are always patrolling and we will stop and arrest anyone we suspect of committing crimes.”
