‘ONE CHANCE’: Pinner football club fights to secure permanent home ground

National Harrow FC’s petition calling for a permanent home ground in Pinner was met with mixed responses.

More than 2,400 people have now signed the petition, which was presented to Harrow Council on Thursday, February 27. The club are hoping the council can help them secure a new ground at The Old Lyonian Sports Ground.

During the meeting, it was shared that the club is in urgent need of a permanent home ground or could potentially face closure.

It is argued that the closure of the club would mean that local children and adults will have fewer opportunities to participate in sports.

The petition states: “This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to ensure that National Harrow FC can continue to serve the community, offering a safe, healthy and supportive environment for young people to excel in sports.”

However, Leader of the council councillor Paul Osborn shared in the meeting that Harrow Council “won’t be able to give them the land in question because it isn’t ours to give”.

He added: “There is nothing stopping the people who own the land from selling it cheaply or donating it or giving it to National Harrow FC, and if they were to come forward with a proposal for just sports rather than housing use, I imagine that would be slightly more favourably looked on by the planning team.”

Councillor Jerry Miles spoke to support the club in finding their forever home, saying: “We’ve lost Wealdstone FC. We will soon lose Barnet FC, and I would hope the council would not turn its back on yet another local football club.”
