Hemel Hempstead Town FC offered a lucky fan a chance to sit on the bench with the management team during their charity match against St Albans City FC as part of their ‘Manarama’ campaign for Prostate UK.
The seat was auctioned off and the winner, with a winning bid of £250, was Hemel FC mega-fan Colin Perreira, who is known for his 500-mile round trip to watch the teams home games.
Colin is partially sighted and travels from Devon with his guide dog, Sid, to watch his favourite football team.
Speaking to HemelNews, Colin said: “It was great to experience the different perspective from standing in the stands to with the management on their bench.
“I found it very interested to see how the game works and how the managers build on tactics if things aren’t going well, it was a once in a lifetime experience.
“I was able to speak to the players before and after the game and it was nice to watch the manager praise the players at the end and let them know what could be better – which they can take to following games.
“Although it was a charity match, the fans were as loud as ever and the atmosphere was great, we won on penalties and being on the bench for those was great.”
Hemel FC have been raising money for Prostate Cancer UK as part of their Manarama to raise money. With contributions from both the club and fans, they have currently raised £1,035 at the time of writing.
