A group of students from Northwood College for Girls raced a triathlon to raise money for Chorleywood-based charity Mission EmployAble last month.
Ten girls took part in the Hatch End Junior Triathlon Under 9s on May 21, swimming 250m, cycling 2km and running 1.2km.
The girls were inspired after sisters Keira and Shailee visited Mission EmployAble’s training café on Chorleywood Common with their parents and brother Kush, who has Down’s syndrome. The café provides work experience for young people with learning disabilities.
The sisters’ mother Nisha said: “The café’s mission is wonderful and will be so valuable to us and many others. We are keen to support [them] because what [they] are doing helps raise awareness of all that can be achieved by people with learning disabilities.”
Erica Bendall, a trustee of Mission EmployAble, said: “The Soni sisters and their schoolfriends are just the latest Northwood people to be so generous.
“We hope more Northwood residents will visit our lovely café and that young adults with learning disabilities from the Northwood area will apply for one of our internships this September.”
At the time of writing, the girls have raised nearly £4,500. To donate, visit gofund.me/993f189d
