The 3rd Rickmansworth Brownies have celebrated their 50th birthday in style, with a Vintage Tea Party and a special anniversary badge designed by one of their newest Brownies, Lola Harding. The afternoon last month culminated with Brown Owl Ali Hampton and Tawny Owl Yvonne Wells cutting a Golden Jubilee cake for everyone to share. The St Mary’s pack was formed in 1966 by Joyce Pope and Mary du Puy, and met in Ebury Hall on the corner of Ebury Road and Bury Lane. They moved to their current meeting place, St Mary’s Church Hall, in the early 1980’s with Sally Morgan as their new leader. Sally still treasures the scrapbooks she filled with photos of the Brownies having fun on Pack Holidays. Carol Thomas led the group until 2013, an era of change which saw the introduction of the modern Brownie uniform. Current leader Ali Hampton said: “Highlights of the past year have included a sleepover at the Science Museum and taking the Brownies away to PGL on the Isle of Wight.” Hear what else Ali Hampton had to say, and more, in the October edition of My Ricky News, which will be distributed on October 7.
