An Abbots Langley athlete has been selected to represent Team Special Olympics GB (SOGB), at the Special Olympics World Games in 2023.
SOGB is the largest provider of year-round sports training and competition for children and adults of all abilities with intellectual disabilities in the UK.
Abbots Langley’s Rosie Porter, who trains with Special Olympics St Albans and competes in both the long jump and 200m, is among the first athletes to be named in the Team SOGB squad for the 16th Special Olympics World Games, which will take place in Berlin from June 17 to 25, 2023.
Rosie said: “It feels amazing to have been selected to represent Special Olympics Great Britain at the World Games in Berlin next year. I’m really looking forward to going to meet new people from around the world and to competing in the 200m and the long jump.”
“I started at Special Olympics when I was seven years old and began competing when I was eight. I have made many friends and I love being part of a group where I am accepted and I can be myself.”
