Northwood school’s cricket team crowned London T20 Champions

The Merchant Taylors cricket team were full of pride last month as they were crowned the London T20 Champions. 

The first 11 beat Whitgift to pick up the prestigious title and played magnificently to beat the opposition. 

On June 21, the performed well in a tight game with many high-class performances coming from both sides. 

But the Merchant Taylors score of 135 – 8 was too much for their south London opponents. 

Jack Leathem’s performance was congratulated on the schools Twitter page. 

It read: “A final reflection on yesterday’s extraordinary events at Tonbridge. A great team performance, of course, but in all the excitement we forgot to acknowledge Jack Leathem’s match-winning innings of 56 off 38 balls. Well played Jack”

The week was a busy one for the school for cricket fans as the school welcomed International cricketers from England and Australia who were warming up before their World Cup clash.

Cricketers from MTS watched their idols run through many drills before having the opportunity to practise with them and getting some of their signatures. 

The teams were warming up for the clash between the two nations at Lord’s which Australia run by 64 runs.
