NO U-TURNS: Garston councillor helps to ban manoeuvre on A405 to improve road safety

U-Turns are now banned on the A405 at the Greenwood Drive junction with help from Garston based councillor Tim Williams.

This is a busy junction and has a high rate of accidents, many local residents highlighted that recently there’s been a high increase of vehicles completing dangerous u-turns here that added to highway safety concerns.

If vehicles require to turn around then they can do so slightly further along the A405 at either the longabout or the A41/A405 roundabout.

Councillor Tim Willians used monies from a Locality Highways Budget that he has access to, and after the necessary consultations occurring the Traffic Regulation Order was signed off in October and the signage was installed on Thursday, November 19.

He also highlighted that the cllr has witnessed a lorry doing an u-turn there, and having misjudged the turn ended up doing a three-point turn in the middle of the A405.

The cllr said: “This is a step towards addressing highway safety concerns along this stretch of the A405, and particularly at this junction, but I still feel Herts County Council, and the police need to address the constant and unnecessary speeding that occurs along the A405.

“Despite the petition presented to Herts County Council in February 2017 asking for road safety measures to occur nothing substantial has occurred and excessive speeding was a key issue highlighted in the Road Safety Report completed in July 2018 and still continues.”
