A new study conducted by ReliableSkip.com has revealed that St Albans is one of the top 10 greenest cities in the UK.
St Albans came tenth in the study, which took into consideration the percentage of household waste that was recycled, the average air quality, and the number of nature and park attractions per 10,000 people.
Paul Bennett, operations director at ReliableSkip.com, said: “While we can all do our bit to help keep the UK, and the world, green through methods like recycling, it’s imperative that this is also enforced and encouraged in the public eye.”
Chris Traill, strategic director for community and place delivery for St Albans City & District Council, said: “As a council, we are committed to making major improvements to the environment, so this accolade is recognition of the hard work that has gone into doing that.
“We are one of the top three recycling local authorities in the country, recently won four Green Flag awards for our parks and green spaces, and have a successful wilding programme.
“This year, we will also be giving away 9,500 free trees to our residents who fully support our efforts to green the district and reduce emissions to net zero by 2030.”
Bath, Canterbury and Chester were named as the top three greenest cities, while Nottingham, Sunderland and Glasgow were named as the least green.
