This month, BUSHEYnews spoke with George Vass, music director of the Bushey Symphony Orchestra.
The orchestra, which will celebrate its 50th birthday next year, recently held a Mother’s Day concert with music by Haydn, Kodály and Stenhammar. The event also included the premiere of a new work by composer and clarinettist Sarah Frances Jenkins.
The orchestra performs four times a year and their next performance will be at The Grange Academy on Sunday, May 19.
George, who has been the orchestra’s music director since 1985, says the orchestra is always looking for new young talent and encourages those who are curious to register their interest.
Older musicians are also encouraged to get involved. One member, violinist John Tatham, is an incredible 101 years old.
George said: “If John proves anything, it’s that age is just a number!”
