NEW NEIGHBOURHOOD: Residents oppose ‘predatory application’ for 700 new homes in Bushey

Residents have strongly opposed a “predatory application” outlined for Compass Park and land north of Farm Way in Bushey.

Put forward by Latimer, Hill and the Masonic Charitable Foundation, the proposal includes up to 700 new homes, a 70-bed care home and land for a primary school.

Following community consultation events, the plans were submitted to Hertsmere Borough Council (HBC) on Tuesday, July 1.

Since then, the application has received over 150 objections, with Liberal Democrat councillors saying they will “fight [the plans] tooth and nail”.

Reaching out to Bushey News to share his concerns, Bushey St James councillor Miles Ponder said: “If the fields are built on, Watford and Bushey would merge, which is the definition of what the green belt is designed to prevent.

“I don’t think there are enough benefits that would balance out the detrimental harm it would cause.”

A spokesperson for Latimer by Clarion Housing Group, Hill and The Masonic Charitable Foundation said: “We are pleased that our planning application for Compass Park is now with HBC for review and has been validated. Anyone interested can view and comment on the application via the council’s planning portal.

“This is a unique opportunity within Hertsmere and will create a landscape-led, sustainable new neighbourhood that delivers much-needed affordable, open market and senior living housing for local people, alongside new amenities.

“Our plans include space for a new primary school, retail and flexible office space, a community hub and Bushey’s largest community park.

“We remain committed to working with local stakeholders and the wider community as the project moves forward. For more information, please visit www.compassparkbushey.co.uk
