NEW-BORNS: Croxley school celebrates the arrival of five new lambs

A Croxley school engaged in an ambitious lambing project is welcoming the arrival of five new lambs.

In York House School’s second successful year of the learning initiative, the young ewes were born shortly after the introduction of a new ram, Mr Jigsaw, to help with breeding.

The pupils have named the new-borns Blackcurrant, Bear, Rose, Toffee and Indigo. Those who are part of the school’s smallholding club have already been lucky enough to get regular visits, learning about the growth of the young animals.

Tara Warren, smallholding manager at York House, said: “The children have been so excited about our new arrivals. What surprised them the most was how quickly the lambs were walking and independently feeding from mum.

“Their confidence around the children has also been wonderful to witness. It has helped our pupils to understand the reasons why the lambs grow so quickly.”

The lambs will remain with their mothers until the end of summer and will eventually move into the valley paddock.
