‘DISGUSTING’: Rickmansworth resident feels ‘targeted’ after discovering racist graffiti

Published on: 25th May 2023   |   By: Darius Morgan   |   Category: Uncategorized

A Rickmansworth resident has spoken out after discovering racially charged graffiti on a bus stop near a school.

Shepherds Lane bus stop opposite Shepherd Primary School was marked with “disgusting” vandalism that read: “Slave y did they sell u?”.

The message, which has since been removed, left one local resident feeling disturbed.

The resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “As a person of colour, it made me feel sad and targeted as Rickmansworth is not much of a diverse neighbourhood; it’s likely at that bus stop I may be one of a few from an ethnic background. Who were they referring to?

“Long term, it makes me wonder if Rickmansworth is an area I’d want to raise my child. Will they be accepted and safe, or targeted? As we’ve seen over the years, racism is real in the UK and people can take a dislike to you without knowing you, just for the colour of your skin. Sad to see in 2023.”
