A Barclays branch manager had to call the police to support two elderly customers from Chorleywood who had fallen victim to a scam.
In a period of two weeks, the branch manager based in Rickmansworth, had to call the police to support the two village residents.
A Barclays spokesperson said: “Our staff are trained to look out for potential frauds and scams and to try and help protect our customers where possible.
“We were pleased that our staff were able to assist in this matter and prevent two customers from becoming victims.
“We would encourage people to remain vigilant at all times and to follow the advice available to keep their money safe.”
A spokesperson for the bank issued some guidance to help elderly residents recognise a scam.
- Think twice before opening links in text messages and emails, especially ones that ask you to provide personal information or make a payment
- Never give remote access to your computer following a cold call from someone
- Nobody legitimate will ever ask you to transfer your money to a ‘safe account’ or say that ‘your money is at risk’. If this happens, it’s a scam.
