Customers at a restaurant in Hemel Hempstead were left stunned after witnessing a theft in broad daylight.
The victim of the theft headed to social media where she described the alleged calculated distraction that led to her daughter’s iPhone being stolen.
The incident occurred in Nando’s on Jarman Way at around 6.45pm on Sunday, September 11.
Speaking to HEMELnews, the victim explained that a woman entered the restaurant and headed over to the victim’s table with a piece of paper. She then began pointing at the sheet and saying “doctor” repeatedly to the confused customers, before fleeing the scene. It was only then that they realised the phone had been taken.
The victim added: “If anyone saw a silver VW Golf or maybe a grey metallic Audi A4 leaving the car park at around 6.51pm, apparently beeping to leave quickly, and you have any dashcam footage, I would be most grateful, especially a licence plate.”
A spokesperson for Herts Police said: “Enquires are continuing, and anyone with information is asked to please contact police via 101 or www.herts.police.uk quoting crime reference number 41/73083/23.”
