Chalfont St Peter AFC ended a shocking run of 12 games without a win this afternoon (February 29) thanks to a first half own goal against Harlow.
The match started in a bad way for The Saints after Danny Wickenden had to be stretchered off the pitch due to an injury.
Just after the half hour mark, Chalfont took the lead after good play on the right-hand side by the winger, and the Harlow defender’s attempted clearance was inadvertently put into his own net. 0-1
Sam Freeman kept Chalfont in the lead just before the half time whistle after he denied what looked like a certain goal.
The Saints had the better of the second half and were desperate to hold on for their first three points of 2020.
The Harlow goalkeeper denied Harry Lodovica from adding a second late into the match, for what would have put the game beyond any doubt.
The Saints held on in the end for all three points and they will hope this can kick-start their season.
They are back in action next weekend at home against bottom of the league Staines Town.
