MP co-hosts Diwali celebrations

An MP from Harrow once again co-hosted the annual Diwali celebrations, allowing Hindus from across the country to take part in the festivities.

Bob Blackman, MP for Harrow East, oversaw the event in the Members’ Dining Room of the House of Commons, giving Hindus the chance to join their elected representatives. He was pleased to update a packed room on the progress he has made in ensuring that issues of concern to the Hindu community are being properly heard in Parliament, with the All Party Parliamentary Group for British Hindus now up and running and increasing awareness of matters that are causing great concern. Speaking at the event, Bob commented, “It is my pleasure to co-host this event and to ensure that this most auspicious of Hindu festivals does not go unmarked by Parliament, given the enormous part people of Hindu faith play in forming the cultural fabric of Britain. “I am very much looking forward to lighting the lamps and celebrating the triumph of good over evil across, both here in Westminster and across Harrow. I’ll also be doing my annual Tour of Temples, including Stanmore, Kenton, Willesden, BAPS and Ealing Road to name but a few, so I hope to celebrate the New Year with as many people as possible.” Diwali is the considered the most important festival of the year for millions of Hindus across the world and the celebrations in Parliament this year marked the 13th year of this event, which is organised by the Hindu Forum of Britain.
