Talented young filmmakers watched their work on the big screen as part of the annual Chorleywood Film Club competition.

Gathering in Chorleywood War Memorial Hall, the budding directors watched as their short films were shown in front of an audience for the first time. They were also given the chance to learn more about the film industry from the contest’s prestigious judging panel. This included BAFTA award-winning animator Graham Ralph, up-and-coming producer Clara Butler, Cannes winner Jan Vrhovnik, TV set decorator Eleanor Dolan, and representative from sponsor Digital Orchard Simon Brett.

In the Mini Movie Maker Year 3-4 category, Ruben Meyjes-Milne won for his short animation, Wish Dragon. The film was praised for its beautiful illustrations and sound design.

In the Mini Movie Maker Year 5-6 category, Lily Warren and Catherine Forrester won for their movie Unfinished Business, which was lauded for its brilliant acting, costumes and special effects.

In the Young Movie Maker Year 7-8 category, brothers Jack and Joshi Foster won for their film Portal, which was praised for its use of proper cinematic technique and strong use of lighting.

In the Young Movie Maker Year 10-13 category, Rosetta Milner won for her documentary Loose Cannons. The film was described as “avant-garde” by the panel and praised for having fantastic writing.

The winners all received bespoke clapper boards for both display and actual use. The panel members also gave special talks for all the young attendees, discussing their own careers and giving the next generation inspiration for their future work.
