MOUNT VERNON: Northwood hospital shuts down unit and denies visitor entries

Published on: 2nd April 2020   |   By: Jake Levison   |   Category: Uncategorized

Mount Vernon Hospital has shut down its Minor Injuries Unit and said visitors will only be allowed onto the premises under specific circumstances.

The Minor Injuries Unit at the Northwood hospital was shut on Monday, March 30, a week after the announcement that all wards were closed to visitors until further notice.

A hospital spokesperson said: “This is similar to most GP practices in North West London, which are all minimising face-to-face consultations. The NHS in North West London is clear that in these very challenging times it is essential that our health services can be as flexible as possible to provide safe and effective care to patients, whilst protecting vital frontline staff.

“In line with all current requirements, if you think you may have the symptoms of COVID-19, please do not come to hospital or attend your GP. Stay at home and visit the NHS111 website for advice.

“We’re really sorry that we are not currently allowing visitors in our hospital. This has been a difficult decision to make but we no longer feel we can prevent the risk of spreading the infection if we continue to allow visitors.”

The circumstances in which a visitor is acceptable can be seen at thh.nhs.uk/media/rss/2020/mar/coronavirus-COVID-19-update.php
