On Friday, May 2, the M1 was closed southbound between J6 (St Albans) and J5 (Watford) for an air ambulance which was attending a collision.
The National Highways shared that traffic caught with the closure were being turned around to leave the M1.
Herts Police also confirmed they attended the scene and advised commuters to avoid the area.
Reports suggest one person was taken to hospital.
The roads were reopened by 6.30pm.
