MOOR PARK MANSION TOURS

Published on: 18th June 2014   |   By: The Newsdesk   |   Category:

Moor Park Mansion has announced tours this summer and autumn for people to view the 17th century mansion and its grounds. The National Association of Decorative and Fine Art Society (NADFAS) is providing guides from local societies, who will conduct tours and immerse visitors into the fascinating history of the Mansion, its role and place in the local area. From the completion of its build in 1678 for the Duke of Monmouth, Moor Park Mansion has been a part of local and national history housing beautiful works of art by Venetian artist Jacopo Amigoni, to landscape gardens originally designed by Capability Brown to the design of the golf course by Harry Colt. The Mansion has been home to Admirals, Lords and Earls and after the 1930s when bought by Hertfordshire local council, it housed the Armed Forces who planned the infamous Battle of Armhem. In the early 90s the members bought Moor Park Golf Club and set about restoring and maintaining the mansion to its former glory. People who have already been on one of the tours said it is “fascinating” and recommend it highly. Tours start from 10am and last approximately one hour and they will be available on June 26, July 17, August 7, August 21, September 18 and October 16. Donations to the Moor Park Heritage Foundation in support of preserving the mansion are welcome.
