Budding journalists from Maple Cross JMI School were amazed to see an article they’d penned published in a national children’s newspaper.
Following the success of projects run by the school’s Eco Council, Year 5 students Kiara Erasmus and Falak Sajjad put together an article sharing their achievements for First News. The article recounted a litter pick run by 140 schoolchildren, alongside a school-wide power shutdown to save on the school’s daily energy expenditure.
Headteacher Hannah Trickett explained: “After the Eco Council gave an assembly to the whole school, we contacted First News who asked us to send in an article.
“The children were very excited to see the school printed in the paper! We have First News in our school library, so for the children to see themselves in there blew their minds.”
First News also sent equipment to Maple Cross to help pupils learn more about the printing press.
“We’re looking to get the printing plate framed in our Reading Den,” added Hannah.
