MAZEL TOV: Northwood synagogue celebrates diamond jubilee with special event

A synagogue that represents communities in both Northwood and Pinner recently celebrated its 60th anniversary.

The Ark Synagogue was founded in May 1964, when 30 Jewish families came together to pray at West House in Pinner. Since then, the congregation has grown to around 860 different families and is now based in Oaklands Gate, Northwood.

On Saturday, May 11, the clergy held a special event to celebrate the synagogue’s diamond jubilee, with various representatives from other local synagogues and different religious groups in attendance.

They were also joined by the Mayors of both Hillingdon and Harrow, local MPs, and a collection of councillors.

A highlight of the service was the moment when senior Rabbi Lea Mühlstein invited anyone who had ever taken on the mantle of civic leadership to stand, which saw almost everyone invited get to their feet.

Three Rivers district councillor Narinder Sian, who attended the event, said: “I’m very grateful for the invitation to the 60th anniversary event at The Ark Synagogue in Northwood. The choir was absolutely brilliant and sounded amazing! Beautiful service. Wonderful day.”
