The history of St Albans featured on the latest episode of iconic BBC quiz show Mastermind as one contestant’s specialist subject.
The programme, hosted by newsreader Clive Myrie, sees individuals pick a topic for the first round, followed by a set of general knowledge questions in the second round.
In this week’s episode, which aired at 7.30pm on Monday, December 11, one of the contestants was Liz Davison, a practice nurse, whose specialist subject was the history of the city of St Albans.
Quizzed by Clive, Liz took on questions on what sub-unit of Roman Britain the historical city of Verulamium was named after, which London cook was burned at the stake in St Albans in 1555, and where Yorkist forces gathered during the First Battle of St Albans.
Liz managed to correctly answer six of the 11 questions she was asked, finishing with 17 points after a very strong general knowledge round. However, it just wasn’t enough to beat eventual winner of the episode Elliot Hooson, who finished with two more points than Liz.
