A man has run the Brighton Marathon to raise money for a Rickmansworth-based wildlife hospital.
Andy Barrett took on his second marathon on Sunday, April 6, and chose to support Pumpkin’s Wildlife Hospital and Rehabilitation Centre.
Speaking to RICKYnews, Andy said: “My sister has volunteered with them for about a year or so; she even fostered a hedgehog for them, so I’ve seen the stuff that they do.
“I’ve always loved animals, and as a smaller charity I know that the money will go far!”
Andy explained that he had suffered a hip injury during training and found the run “hard work”, joking that he would “never do it again!”.
However, knowing that the money would be going to a good cause, and with his wife, parents, sisters and sister’s fiancé cheering him on, he completed the run in an impressive three hours and 47 minutes.
A spokesperson for Pumpkin’s said: “We want to give a massive thank you to Andy, who ran the Brighton Marathon to raise funds for Pumpkin’s. Andy has managed to raise an incredible £1,000 so thank you to everyone who donated and supported him in his run!
“This donation will help us provide vital treatment, food and care for the wildlife who are in need. From everyone at Pumpkin’s Wildlife Hospital (and our furry patients), thank you so much!”
Andy celebrated completing the marathon with a beer on Brighton Beach and a delicious pub roast dinner.
