A Rickmansworth-based movie prop shop recently held an auction of hundreds of highly sought-after movie posters- with a rare Star Wars item selling for an incredible £13,000.
Organised by Prop Store, the Cinema Poster Live Auction managed to earn more than £275,000 in sales, consisting of more than 550 items up for grabs.
The ‘Hildebrandt’ poster for the 1977 sci-fi classic Star Wars is considered a rare item amongst collectors, but defied the odds to sell for that amount, when it was originally expected to be sold in the region of between £5,000 and £7,000.
All proceeds for that particular poster’s sale went to Disaster Emergency Fund’s Ukraine Aid Appeal.
Other items that sold included original posters for such classics as Pulp Fiction, Thunderball and The Goonies, as well as an original cel of animation from Walt Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and concept artwork for the 80s animated dinosaur movie The Land Before Time.
Commenting on the auction, Prop Store CEO Stephen Lane said: “We were thrilled to be back live in the auction room for our Cinema Poster Auction for what was another fantastic auction. Bidding was strong both in the room and with our online bidders across the globe, and yet again we’ve produced tremendous results.”
