MARATHON MISSION: Croxley councillor to take on marathon for Christian charity

Published on: 7th September 2022   |   By: Bryn Holmes   |   Category: Uncategorized

A Croxley district councillor is set to run the New York City Marathon on November 6 – his second marathon this year.

Councillor Chris Lloyd, who represents the Durrants Ward on Three Rivers District Council, completed the Edinburgh Marathon in May, and despite a year of injuries, fully intends to compete in the USA this autumn.

Due to an Achilles injury, he has mainly been running 5km Parkrun events, which made the Edinburgh race quite tough. However, Chris is now back in the gym as of late August and has also started cycling to train himself up in preparation for the event.

Cllr Lloyd is hoping his fundraiser will raise £4,000 for Christian relief and development charity Tearfund, an organisation he’s been a supporter of since his school days.

Speaking about his reasons for supporting the charity, cllr Lloyd said: “The expenditure required by many African nations on combating climate change will reduce the amount of money they have available for healthcare work with children on a daily basis. The thought of children going so hungry that they’re too weak to play makes me very sad, and motivates me to do what I can to help.”

Cllr Lloyd has already managed to raise nearly £3,000. You can donate to his JustGiving page here.
