A Watford councillor has provided a grant of £500 to a musical charity which provides singing sessions for people with dementia and their carers.
Councillor Stephen Cavinder’s generous grant will ensure that Hertfordshire Musical Memories can continue to provide classes and activities by allowing them to hire spaces, as well as helping with running costs.
The 78 members of Hertfordshire County Council are each granted a sum of money to give to initiatives that will benefit their local areas. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, this locality budget has been raised from £10,000 to £15,000 in order to address the potential financial difficulties faced by individuals and organisations.
Cllr Cavinder said: “The ability to enjoy music provides a very powerful tool to enhance the quality of life for people living with dementia. Herts Musical Memories deliver a vital service to those living with dementia and their carers. I’m delighted to approve a grant from my locality budget which will help ensure they are able to continue providing regular singing sessions in a fun and stimulating way to the dementia community.”
