A man from Pinner won more than £65,000 in a poker tournament in Luton recently, paying only £90 to enter. Will Davies, 23, from Barnhill, won the penultimate leg of the Grosvenor United Kingdom Poker Tour (GUKPT) trophy, scooping £65,550 in the process. He has been playing poker since he completed his studies at John Lyon School in Harrow five years ago and if he’s not at the poker table he can either be found at Emirates Stadium supporting Arsenal or playing a round of golf at Northwood Golf Club. Davies won his £1,090 seat for the penultimate leg for just £90 and the GUKPT has attracted 226 players from around the country, generating a prize pool of £226,000. The huge pot has attracted some of the best poker players in the UK. He said: “It’s a pretty amazing feeling, I have been playing full time for two months and to win a massive event like this on probably the most prestigious and highly respected tour like the GUKPT is a huge confidence boost as well as a boost to the bank roll. “I really enjoy the GUKPT tour for the social aspect and how well run it is. It was even more special to win in my local casino where I play most of my poker.”
