Chorleywood residents and thrifting lovers from further afield have shared tributes to the co-founder of Chorleywood Car Boot Sale, John Barter.
The Chorleywood Car Boot Facebook page shared a post on Sunday, March 2, stating: “It is with a heavy heart that we share some sad news.
“Our much-loved John Barter has sadly passed away. He was a big part of Chorleywood Car Boot Sale since starting it with his brother David in 1997, and he be greatly missed by all who knew him.
“We’ll be opening for the new season on Sunday, April 6, and while it won’t be the same without him, we know he’d want us to carry on as always.”
The post received more than 300 reactions from the community, all sharing their messages and memories of John.
One said: “John was a lovely chap. We had such a laugh and a joke about things. He will be missed.”
Another said: “He loved attending and meeting everyone. He would definitely want us all to keep strong, carry on, and make it the best Chorleywood Car Boot ever.”
The car boot sale takes place at Meadows Farm.
