Police are set to carry out further enforcement exercises on an Aldenham road to tackle heavy goods vehicles flouting a ban on lorries.
Despite a weight limit of 7.5 tonnes indicated by road signs on Radlett Road, many residents have reported vehicles above this limit continuing to use the road.
Last year, according to Herts Police statistics, 49 overweight vehicles were recorded in the area, with 43 stopped. Of those that were stopped, only 12 per cent had legal documentation proving that they were unloading the goods they were carrying at a location on the road.
Many of those who were stopped admitted using the route as a shortcut between the A41, M1 and Harpers Lane, allowing them to save fuel and time.
Posting on social media, county councillor for Hertsmere Caroline Clapper said: “Numerous complaints have been received and reported to the local Safer Neighbourhood Team and enforcement has been requested in response to these complaints.
“These trucks are disturbing residents in nearby roads by causing their homes to shake, waking them up with noise during the early hours and causing the tarmac to disintegrate, which has had to be resurfaced.”
Herts Police have been contacted for comment.
