A resident who noticed a surge in littering in Northwood Recreation Ground and Ruislip Woods during the pandemic hopes the problem will now ease up.
Jackie Barton, of Northwood Hills, takes a litter picker and carrier bag with her on walks to clean up rubbish left in local green spaces, and has noticed that the problem has been much worse in recent months.
She said: “I suppose more people have been out exercising, which is lovely, but there’s so much rubbish around now. The rubbish items range from things like disposable barbeques to sanitary towels – it’s really quite disgusting.
“There’s also a lot of gas cannisters, so much of the littering is probably by kids, but you can’t blame it all on them. It’s rather sad that people come to enjoy these beautiful spaces we have and then leave it looking like a rubbish tip.
“Hopefully now that more people are meeting in houses and private areas, it will ease up a bit.”
