Wealdstone FC have gained the support of former Prime Minister Boris Johnson MP as part of their efforts to secure their long-term future at Grosvenor Vale.
The club, who were football nomads for more than 20 years after selling their Lower Mead ground in Harrow in the early 1990s, have been based at the Grosvenor Vale Stadium in Ruislip for the last 15 years. They have been in discussions with landlords KSIMC for some time about securing their long-term future at the site. However, after discussions had stalled, Mr Johnson MP offered to step in to try and find a way forward.
The club have secured the lease of the stadium for a further three years, but Darren Linden, Wealdstone FC’s engagement and community director, says they need a longer lease if the club are to continue to progress into the EFL.
He said: “The short-term nature of the lease prevents us from accessing both football and other sporting grants and from significantly investing our own funds in improving the Grosvenor Vale site for the benefit of not just the football club, but the entire community.”
