Cricket players wearing unusual costumes came together for a village cricket club’s fancy dress day.
Chorleywood Cricket Club’s (CCC) annual Club Day took over the Common on Sunday, August 25. This long-running event brings together the club’s members, wearing their best fancy dress costumes, to compete in a six-a-side tournament for the dubious honour of playing in the final, at dusk, after several hours of liquid refreshment.
This year’s event saw teams of all ages dressed as Olympic athletes, dodgeball players, builders, Scooby Doo characters and more fighting it out in some close-run games.
With the sunny weather holding out, those watching were treated a day of fantastic cricket and thrilling performances, as well as enjoying a pint or two in the summer sunshine.
The tense final saw a team of young Minions beating a band of leprechauns and securing a win for the first time.
Speaking to CHORLEYWOODnews, a cricket club spokesperson said: “As usual, the day moved on into the night with vociferous karaoke and some particularly relevant Oasis performances from one of our more senior members. A good day was had by all. Roll on 2025!”
The club are also celebrating their young stars, after the U10s won their Herts Junior League U10A HB division unbeaten with nine wins, and their U10B division with just one loss.
CCC have been playing cricket on Chorleywood Common for nearly 200 years, and they are always looking for more players to get involved. To find out more, head to www.cwcricket.org/cgi-bin/main.pl
