Local MP drops in to Aldenham Care Community

Published on: 21st June 2018   |   By: Jason Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

Oliver Dowden, Member of Parliament for Hertsmere, last Friday paid a visit to the residential care community at Delrow House, Aldenham, run by the Camphill Village Trust.

The site, which is set up as a small communal village, provides care and support to adults with learning and mental health disabilities.

Speaking after the visit, Mr Dowden said: ‘It was a pleasure to visit the Camphill Village Trust. They do fantastic work creating a safe and caring environment for everyone living there and I enjoyed the chance to speak with residents and staff about the community.

‘I enjoyed the chance to see their wonderful facilities, including a bakery, café, theatre and, most impressively, a small farm with crops and animals run by the residents.

‘It was also valuable to speak with the senior staff of the Trust about the management of the community and the challenges they’re facing as an organisation. On the back of this I will be engaging with my colleagues in the Government on their behalf.’

The Camphill Village Trust was founded in Scotland in 1939 by an Austrian doctor, Karl König, with a group of young helpers, all refugees who had escaped Austria following the rise of the Nazi Party. The Trust has steadily expanded and now has nine sites across the country.

Mr Dowden added: ‘I’m grateful to everyone at the Trust for their warm welcome and showing me around.’
