LITTLE LION: Dave the cat shows support for England from his new Berkhamsted home

A former stray cat adopted by the 2022 England football team in Qatar is once again lending his support to the team from his new home in Berkhamsted.

Dave first made headlines when he charmed the England team’s players during the World Cup two years ago, when they were staying in the small Qatari town of Al Wakrah.

The cat became so popular with the squad, particularly with defenders Kyle Walker and John Stones, that the team then arranged for Dave to be brought to England.

After five months of quarantine and various health checks, Dave finally arrived in the UK in May 2023. He was subsequently adopted by the FA’s senior media operations manager, Anna Bush, who is also a Berkhamsted resident.

Since then, Dave has become a much-loved fixture of his new household, which consists of Anna, her husband and their two young sons.

Speaking to Berkhamsted News from the team’s current camp in Germany, Anna said: “I didn’t want to do interviews at first, as I wanted him to get settled into his new home. Now, he’s completely settled and so sweet.

“He loves the hot weather and his food. He’s even made a friend down the road. The boys absolutely love him, and they go to school telling everyone that they have the England cat!”

During this year’s Euros in Germany, Dave was unfortunately unable to join the team at their training base in Blankenheim due to ongoing quarantine restrictions.

However, Dave has been supporting the team (who, at the time of writing, are set to face Switzerland in the quarter finals) from home. The Bush family post regular updates and predictions on their dedicated DaveTheCat Instagram page.

As well as that, a special photo of Dave made up to look like a king sits pride of place on the pet wall at the England team’s hotel.
