Two Croxley schoolgirls helped their team win a regional football tournament, and are now set to compete in the national finals.
Abigail Garner and Aimee Colbourne are both pupils at Yorke Mead School with a passion for football. As well as playing for their school teams, they also play for the St Albans Lionesses U11s.
This year, they competed in the ESF tournament, the country’s biggest youth football festival. The regional event took place at Butlin’s in Bognor Regis from May 12 to 15.
The Lionesses stormed to victory against all the other teams in the U12s age bracket. Having won the final, they now have the chance to face the other regional champions at national team training ground St George’s Park on June 17 and 18.
Abigail’s father Darren has nothing but praise for the team’s management.
He said: “They are managed by Adam and Tanya Kutcher and coached by Melissa Godino. These three are all fantastic; they have a huge passion for all the girls to succeed!”
