LIFE STORIES: LGBT+ stories to be recorded as part of Three Rivers history project

Published on: 26th February 2023   |   By: Nik Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

An ongoing history project asking people across the wider Three Rivers district to record their stories is putting out a special appeal for LGBT+ residents to come forward and share their experiences.

Three Rivers Museum in Rickmansworth has teamed up with Three Rivers District Council (TRDC) to set up this long-term oral history initiative, with this message coinciding with LGBT+ History Month.

Fabian Hiscock, chair of the museum, said: “The experiences of the LGBT+ community are a vital part of our wider local story, and we want our sound archive to be able to tell that story.”

As part of the celebrations, the Progress Pride flag was also raised above Three Rivers House.

Chair of TRDC councillor Debbie Morris said: “I would like to encourage members of our LGBT+ community to participate in the Three Rivers Museum project.

“By sharing your experiences, you will broaden the understanding of the challenges you’ve faced and hopefully help remove any residual hate and prejudice that regrettably, still remains.”
