A woman subjected to a sustained battle of abuse has spoken of the devastating impact after her former partner was jailed.
Nashon Campbell, 32, formerly of Leggatts Wood Avenue, was jailed for five years and one month at St Albans Crown Court on September 2, after pleading guilty to five offences.
They included coercive and controlling behaviour, assault by beating, intentional strangulation, possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and criminal damage.
The woman said: “I genuinely thought that I was going to die. Even now it hurts to think about. The last few years with Nashon have changed me as a person.
“I desperately needed the support of my family whilst pregnant, but I was too embarrassed to see them since I was constantly covered in bruises. It was really isolating and I felt like I was trapped at home with him.”
Campbell’s abuse began in June 2024 and continued for almost a year and a half, during which he assaulted the woman several times, including while she was pregnant.
He also hit her head with a metal pole, withheld food, made her eat off the floor and damaged her car.
Detective Constable Ben Chandler said: “Campbell is a dangerous and volatile man who carried out a sustained campaign of abuse, causing significant harm and distress.”
A restraining order was granted to protect the victim in the future.
