A Liberal Democrat councillor has raised concerns about a website allegedly misleading residents by gathering personal data under false pretences.
The site in question mimics a community-style information page but according to councillor Stephen Giles-Medhurst, Leader of Three Rivers District Council, it is run by the Conservative Party.
He claims the site lacks clear branding or transparency, leading users to believe they are engaging with a neutral source.
Cllr Giles-Medhurst said: “Many residents have been confused on getting letters, petitions and social media posts asking them to use www.threerivers.team. They contacted me saying they thought this was a Three Rivers Council site. It is not.”
The Conservative Party has responded to the allegations, with Chorleywood North and Sarratt councillor Oliver Cooper denying all claims.
He said: “ThreeRivers.team is and has long been clearly the website of Three Rivers’ Conservative team. The attempt to shut it down is an attempt to stop democratic engagement by other parties.”
The issue has sparked discussion regarding transparency on websites and the need to protect public trust.
