Fifty pupils from five schools gathered at Kings Langley School to bookmark a special occasion – the awarding of the 2025 Carnegie Medal.
Every year, reading groups are invited to shadow the prestigious children’s book award by reading, discussing and reviewing the shortlisted books. The readers then vote for their favourites in the Shadowers’ Choice Awards.
The students at Kings Langley School were joined in their discussions by author Catherine Johnson, who spoke about her books and research, followed by a fast-paced creative writing workshop.
The students were “delighted” that their selection for the Shadowers’ Choice Award, King of Nothing by Nathanael Lessore, was named the winner.
For the main prize, the judges selected Glasgow Boys by Margaret McDonald, which was the school’s Book of the Month.
Ms Hill, from Kings Langley School, said: “It was a fantastic opportunity for our students, and they embraced it fully, showing excellent character and celebrating the importance of reading for pleasure. Thank you and well done, Team Carnegie!”
