Ladies football star visits school in Garston

Published on: 29th March 2016   |   By: The Newsdesk   |   Category: Watford FC

Arsenal Ladies player and former Garston pupil, Kelly Smith MBE, visited her old school to inspire students.

Kelly Smith MBE, lived in Watford and attended Francis Combe School, before it was an academy. Her visit to the Academy included meeting the Principal, Deborah Warwick, who is also an ex-pupil and a tour of the Academy.

Kelly contacted Mr Aslam, who is organising visits from ex-pupils, as she was most impressed with the previous visits by Mark Illot (Ex-England and Essex Cricketer), Lewis Kinsella (Aston Villa Professional Footballer) and many others.

On leaving the academy, Kelly said: “I am very impressed with the new facilities at the Academy and students should be very proud of being in such a pleasant environment; a perfect opportunity to learn and enjoy life to the full. I wish the Academy and the students the very best for the future.”

She met with a large group of Year 8 students who are studying Inspirational People as part of their Citizenship lesson as well as gave a talk to Key Stage 4 GCSE sports leaders about her experience, which was followed by a question and answer session.

Continuing with the theme of ‘FCA Alumni’ and how ex-pupils are becoming role models for the students and staff of the Academy, we were very privileged to receive a call from Kelly Smith wanting to visit the Academy.
