‘IT WAS BRILLIANT’: Christmas lights switch on returns to Ruislip after hiatus

Published on: 1st December 2025   |   By: Lizzie Ellis   |   Category: Uncategorized

Residents of Ruislip were delighted at the return of the Christmas light switch-on to the High Street, after many years without one.

The well-attended event took place on Friday, November 21, at Civic Square, and involved a short speech, a festive carol sung by the Bishop Winnington-Ingram (BWI) school choir, and a countdown to the light switch-on to get residents in the Christmas spirit.

The lights were officially switched on by the Mayor of Hillingdon, Councillor Philip Corthorne, marking the start of the Christmas season in Hillingdon.

Councillor Peter Smallwood, Ruislip Ward Councillor, told NORTHWOODNews: “Two years ago we got the Christmas tree back, so this year it was brilliant to bring the Christmas lights switch-on back to Ruislip High Street after so many years.

The community really came together for it, and the BWI School Choir were absolutely fantastic. We’re hoping this becomes a tradition that grows year on year, bringing even more festive spirit to our lovely High Street.”

Councillor Smallwood, alongside Councillor Corthorne and Councillor Riley, wants to rebuild the tradition of a Christmas light switch-on in the area and hope to build on the event year on year.
