LUCKY BREAK: Northwood win ugly with late own goal

Published on: 24th September 2019   |   By: Jake Levison   |   Category: Northwood F.C

Northwood FC had a huge stroke of luck away to Bedfont Sports as a last-gasp own goal was enough for them to edge the fixture 2-3 tonight (Tuesday, September 24) in the Velocity Trophy group stage.

The Woods looked the stronger team against Bedfont in the Group 8 tie and took just eight minutes to go ahead, as Kingsley Eshun grabbed his first goal for the club after sweeping home from a Matt Cooper cross.

The away side doubled their lead in the 25th minute through Alex Witham, who capitalised on a great ball from Chris Gosling by volleying it into the back of the net.

Bedfont clawed their way back into it though with a good finish from Ezekiel Bademosi just nine minutes later. The sides went back down the tunnel at half-time with the Woods edging it 1-2.

It was a fairly uneventful second half until the late drama began in the 78th minute, when Bedfont substitute Keanu Williams smashed in an equalizer from the edge of the box.

It was literally a goal at the death for Northwood which nicked them the win, and it couldn’t have been much more fortunate. In no less than the 94th minute, Hayford playedWitham into the home side’s box and a squared ball came offa Bedfont defender and sunk into the net.
