A Rickmansworth student has been called up to join the England Women’s U19 Futsal Squad and Development Programme.
Futsal is a football-based sport that has similarities with five-a-side football. However, it’s played on a hardcourt that is smaller than a traditional pitch.
Hazel, who studies at The Royal Masonic School for Girls (RMS), has been playing the sport from a young age and initially took up the game to improve her football skills.
The game is growing in popularity, with one source estimating that there are 12 million players across the globe.
Hazel said: “On Christmas Eve, I received a call saying I had been invited to two camps to trial.
“After the two camps, I received an email saying I had been selected for the England squad. I was speechless and proud of what I had achieved.”
A spokesperson for RMS said: “Hazel’s dedication and hard work have truly paid off. Congratulations again on this incredible achievement. The RMS community is so proud and will be cheering you on every step of the way!”
