For the first time in many a moon, Rickmansworth Bowls Club’s veterans side finished their 2022 season as champions of the Watford and District Bowls League’s Premier Division.
Despite the nerves of the deciding game coming on the very last day of play, the team managed to get the job done, finishing in first place.
It was a very successful season for the side, who won three quarters of their league fixtures this year. Captain Ian Jacklin said: “It’s particularly impressive, as we have fewer members than most of our rivals, and thus a smaller squad of eligible players to draw on.”
The sweet victory brought an end to what’s been a great year of bowls for the club, with both the outdoor season completed and the finals weekend having been held.
With a new website up and running and an optimistic feeling, the club is now also on the lookout for any budding bowlers to join them in time for the next season.
Located at Basing Gardens in the Northway part of Rickmansworth, they’re a very active club with social roll-ups running most Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and friendly fixtures at the weekend.
These run alongside the Watford & District and county competitions many players also choose to take part in.
