A variety show is being held in Ruislip in memory of a late trilby-wearing Hillingdon legend.
Paul Newton, who passed away from cancer last October, was a local magician, entertainer and businessman who brought much joy to the local community. Later in his life, Paul used the skills he learned through mentalism to start a business that showed people how scammers utilise human psychology and how to combat it.
In his youth, Paul would often perform at the Winston Churchill Theatre in Ruislip, where the event in his memory is to take place on Sunday, February 2.
The show will feature appearances from some famous faces, as well as allowing friends and family to come together to remember Paul.
There will be performances from ventriloquist Steve Hewlett, magician Matt Stirling, comedian Herbie Adams, record holder Jay Rawlings, singer Max Hutton, Freedom of Dance, and BYT – all of whom have worked with Paul before.
Event organiser and Paul’s life-long friend, Ian, spoke to Northwood&Ruislipnews about Paul. The pair first met at primary school and remained steadfast friends. Ian said that in their youth, they were known as the Blues Brothers.
Ian’s idea was to put on a show to celebrate Paul in a way that he would have loved.
Ian said: “Paul was born a performer, who always made people laugh. This is our chance to show his family how much Paul was loved by all of us – all whilst having a good old laugh.”
Speaking to Northwood&Ruislipnews, Herbie said: “Paul was a true gentleman and always a joy to work with. We shared many laughs together. I’m so chuffed to be performing alongside such a stellar line-up.”
All proceeds from the event will be donated to Dogs Trust and Cancer Research UK. To buy tickets, visit www.shorturl.at/W9FzM
